Professor Brent Dongell (& Paige Rouse) | Sep 28, 2020

"But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers." Psalm 1;2-3

God often speaks as we're reading and reflecting on His Words in the Bible.  You'll here story after story of people hearing from God while they were either reading their Bible or hearing someone preach from the Word.  Listening to God comes to life through loving God's Word. You'll have trouble fully hearing and listening to God, if you don't let Him speak, starting with His Word.

Imagine trying to listen to your parents but ignoring their messages.  Or imagine wanting to get closer to them but allowing yourself to be easily distracted when they're saying something. The line of communication would be poor. The Bible is made up of God's love letters and messages being spoken to us.

The Bible describes a person who thinks on God's words day and night as a well-watered tree who is setup for success. God warns us to avoid the advice of people who don't walk and speak like God. One person slowly weakens your strength and longevity while others empower you to produce with deep long-lasting roots.

Open up the Bible as God's messages with a message for you and us today as a first step in communicating better with Him. This posture develops expectation.

There are many compounding habits that will change your life if you start them now. Opening up the Bible today and tomorrow is at the top of that list. Did you know that one study found those who read the Bible regularly (4 or more times a week) had these kinds of results below?

228% more likely to share their faith with others

407% more likely to memorize Scripture

59% less likely to view pornography
