What If You're Unknown Calling Is More Clear Than You Think? (Week 1 of Listening to God Series)

Professor Brent Dongell (& Paige Rouse) | Sep 07, 2020

"God's goal is faithfulness over popularity and success."  The Bible says, He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time 2 Timothy 1:9

Sometimes figuring out our calling or future can feel frustrating.  Especially when people keep asking you to figure it out. But what if your unknown calling is clearer than you think? We often use call or calling in our conversations to describe the specific place or role where God wants us to serve.

Here's the problem: the Bible also uses calling in relation first to our foundational faith and growth as Christians moving together towards a greater vision rather than a specific individual task.  God specifically calls people to certain roles in Ephesians 4 and set's a part specific people like the 12 disciples, Paul, and Samuel, but he also calls us in to be sanctified and conformed to the image of Christ.

If you typed "call" into a biblegateway search, you'd find a lot of different ways the wod call is used, but one of the main connections you'll find about God's heavenly calling is for his people to "Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called" The Bible says, "...God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  While he has specific plans for characters, His foundational calling to the church and Christians is to be faithful to their call."

Your primary biblical calling in short is faithfully living our your faith in Christ. If you're doing that, you're probably living out and know more of your calling than you think. But yes, God can also call people to live out certain roles in the body or to go to specific places.  How can we know what he is saying or where he is directing us?  Hopefully this blog series will help you potentially find a sense of peace, affirmation, or alignment in life's specifics as you try to live out your first call to live faithfully for Him.
